A3 sized machine...Next generation...Planset!

Over the last period of time I've had several comments about the higher priced 2011-CL.
Beside the price, for some the bigger sized machine seem to be an issue.
Visiting the Intermodellbau this spring I noticed quite a few A3 sized machines from different suppliers.
Most of these manufacturers / suppliers use Trapezium or even Metric screws to drive their machines,
similar as I did back in 2001-2005.
This solution is now with the availability of ballscrews out of date.

Currently in the process converting my own Classic to ballscrews got me
thinking / consider, redesigning the previous Zoltar-2001-Classic concept with ballscrews.
Lessons learned with the designprocess of the 2011 machine are applied here also and
I started a few weeks back on this renewed puzzle to make it all fit in Solidworks.
Now only some details to solve are leftover, this design process is now going to finish soon.



Some of the targets:

>A3 Sized mechanics workrange X-Y-Z 430x317x100mm
>Very affordable Nema 17 motor with cheap china drivers (step-stick?) to be used.
This reduces the cost of electronics to a minimum. EMC software (free)
A complete Nema 17(4x) driver set costs estimated at about 150-200â,¬

Alternatively:
>>Nema 23 motors still can be used if the torque of the Nema 17
is not sufficient, or a larger budget is available<<

>Aiming at a cutting accuracy better than 0.1mm, wich is in real life results
That is then 0,1 + / -0.05mm

(note: The competion mostly advertises with theoretical accuracy's -
   this doesnt tell anything about real life results)


Theoretical for if you wish to know....200 steppersteps x8 microsteps-controller
gives 1600 steps per rev.  In this case ballscrews 4mm> 4:1600
results in  0,025mm accuracy at 1/8 microstep.
At 1/16 microstep 4:32000 =0.0125mm accuracy for who wants to know.
But thats theoretical....
If you really looking for that kind of cutting accuracy
     - go and look for Pro$$esional-solutions.

>Uses a Proxxon/Dremel or similar 150W tool.

>Ballscrews can be ordered directly from China, ready machined to size.
A China 1204 ballscrewset would set you back about 200â,¬ (incl transport from China)

>The design is modified to use dual drive on X preventing any uneven movements of the bridge

>The all stainless-steel plano kitset/laserset itself is estimated
  to have cut locally at about 200-250â,¬
  (depending in the contacts you have in that industry)

>MDF Tabletop or optional a very nice machined Isel tabletop plate can be installed.

>Support via the dedicated member section on this forum.

Total price very well under 1000â,¬  - yes!!!

Hi,
I have just ordered a planset to plan the steps to build Zoltar 2012.
By the way, could you consider a variation where X be 430 mm in order to hold 19" aluminium front panels with no height limit, the aim is to mechanize it by sections providing the max Y displacement is the one the Zoltar 2012 is able to accomplish.

You mean extending X to 500 mm ?
Adding 70mm is possible.

"no height limit" I do not understand that 100%
Z=100mm and cant simply be changed .

Thanks for the answer.
X should be 482 instead of 315.
No height limit was regarding the virtual height of the panel when you install it in vertical orientation, so speaking in 19" slang we would be talking about U or HE in German.
