Hi Guys,

This is a story about my IGUS Zoltar..  my 3rd Zoltar machine.
It started with the classic xl back in 2003, see the Classic thread on the forum for pictures there.

First an image of how I'm using the IGUS right now.

Future plans are..

-lowering the t-nuts..  and/or making an in height ajustable work bed..  since I use this thing for 3d Milling and can use all the height I can get.
-adding a rotation axis..  just because we want too! ;)
-Add premanent suction to the spindle..  to minimize dust while milling.

So, I'm going to sort the building pictures and start my thread here..

Cheers!

Ok,

Finally some time to start getting this thread going here.

I'm copying and translating my thread from cnc-zone to this forum.

In 2007 Chris showed me the IGUS design, and since I wanted to build a machine with semi pro lineair guides and ball screws..  decided to build this one.

The parts for the prototype ordered through Chris.

And here are all the laser cut parts..  ready for drilling and tapping holes.

The project got side tracked because of work.

Since 2007 I've done more and more 3d work for movies, until in 2010 I decided I wanted to do more with physical things..  wanted to be able to hold the things I designed and modeled in the computer.

So my 3D milling adventure continued from then.

After a Year of clearing my head..  decided that this is the road I want to follow..
I want to use all those years in 3D modeling and combine it with what I learned from all my Zoltar adventures.

And since I've already experimented with 3d Milling with my old Classic..  The new IGUS machine was my first serieus machine made for 3D milling my own molds and prototype parts.

Not related to the IGUS build..  but it is somewhat related to 3D. :P

This was the first model I printed in 3D.
Model was printed at Shapeways..
Nice test to see what we are up agains with the Zoltrbot :P

Ok, here' the bridge construction.

All parts are interlocking..   like the new 2011.
The Bridge parts form a sort of box contruction, making it very ridgid!

The side plates

Slide together nicely.

Both sides

You hook the side panel in, and rotate them in position.
Then secure them with a couple of imbus bolts.
Really easy construction..  and again..  this all aligns itself automaticly and makes for a real ridgid construction.

And the IGUS rail fitted.
