Welcome at the Zoltar 2011-CL introduction .

This 2011-CL machine design has come a long way.
Since the 2001 there have been quit a few of experiments with slideblocks,
bearings and things in between resulting in the bracket an Igus setup.
Basically the idea has alway been to keep costs below 1000 Euro and get a accuracy of 0,1mm.
As with many things in life you want more, bigger, better.....
Visiting Peter Pankras and enjoying his Igus machine I found it was pretty big,
actually it took a lot of space.
A fixed space is required as this Igus machine is almost impossible to move.
Structurally it turned out very sturdy and the accuracy is more than sufficient.
So the Igus structure setup became actually the backbone for this new setup,
then added new insights to the machines from the past, resulting in this new setup.

Dimensions are based on the standard sized a fourth part of MDF sheet sold at the DIY store
determined its capable table size at 1200x600.
Due to laser costs and low budget shipment options, weight and parts-length had to be limited
to 30Kg max (Euro 1&2 zone) and 1000x500x50MM package size.
A longer (or shorter) machine is still possible with a customised X-rail and drivescrew upgrade
from 300 to 1200mm workspace on the X-axis.

Here is, the new 2011 machine mechanics, again aiming to be created around 1000 Euro,
but more than four times its original machine size from 2001.
Ballscrews may raise the costs a bit, trapezium should force it to go under 1000 Euro.

My advice is to choose ballscrews, but I do understand that some future users may not wish
to spend that kind of money. Trapezium screws maybe a in between solution then and possibly
be sufficient for the purpose you built this tool for.
Then there is always the possibility to tuneup the machine with ballscrews later on.
Keep in mind that trapezium screws may need due to their nature -friction- stronger stepper motors
and resulting in a more expensive controller and following powersupply....

This section is of course about Q&A for buying, building, and maintaining this 2011-CL mechanics.
You should find (or get) general answers to your questions on this mechanics overhere.
Specific details and building support will be given in the buildsection for logged-in members only.
